Ed Snajdr (PhD U Pittsburgh) is an Associate Professor in the Anthropology Department at John Jay College CUNY. His research interests include urban redevelopment, violence, ethnicity, gender, human trafficking, environmentalism, and the application of anthropological perspectives in the fields of development, law and social justice. His first book Nature Protests: The End of Ecology in Slovakia (University of Washington Press 2008) examines the intersections of nationalism, nature and social justice movements before and after the fall of state socialism. His work on development, gender and law enforcement in Central Asia has been published in American Ethnologist and the Journal of the Royal Anthropological Institute. His exploration of blogging as a new form of samizdat will appear in June in the Czech Sociological Review. He is currently conducting field research on representation, race, public space and protest in the Atlantic Yards redevelopment in Brooklyn, NY with funding from the National Science Foundation.
